Drawing consultant Mark Lewis demonstrates step-by-step how to sketch your latest jewellery, silversmithing or creative design ideas using a digital sketchpad, the iPad.

The use and possibilities of iPads as a digital canvas is becoming increasingly common in the creative practice – with David Hockney leading the way as the world’s foremost iPad painter.

This one day short course, led by experienced tutor Mark Lewis, is designed to help you to identify and familiarise yourself with selected design and drawing apps. You will be introduced to the tools, techniques and approaches to facilitate you to use your iPad to create your very own sketches and presentation designs.

This short course is ideal for beginners and key topics covered include:

  • Basic functions for the iPad
  • Choosing the right drawing app
  • Selecting colours and tools
  • Importing photos and using layers
  • Sketching objects and capturing design ideas
  • Basic rendering techniques

This course is led by Mark Lewis, a jeweller and silversmith living and working in London, with 37 years’ experience of teaching. Drawing has always been central to his practice and recent work has focussed significantly on digital painting, drawing and mark-making.

What do you need to bring?

You need to bring an iPad and you will be sent a link to download a drawing app onto your device ahead of the short course.
